Howard County Executive Ken Ulman was joined by local leaders at an event on Monday to release the final report of the joint task force on school safety.
County Executive Ken Ulman said Monday that $2 million would be spent to update security measures at Howard County schools, an initiative taken following the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut. In addition, a task force recommended emergency response training and measures to create a safe climate for students and help identify children who may be suffering from issues. “All of what we’re doing is trying to put together the best possible group of policies to diminish the chances that we have a tragedy in Howard County,” said Ulman. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman went down to New Orleans to watch the Baltimore Ravens play in the Super Bowl along with his brother Doug Ulman and his father Lou. Ulman's brother Doug, the CEO of Livestrong, had acquired the tickets, according to Sam O'Neil, an Ulman administration official. But when the lights went out just after the start of the third quarter, it was Ulman who was out in the dark—he was locked out of the building, according to an Explore Howard report. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman now has $2.13 million in available campaign cash, but trails at least one expected gubernatorial candidate.
Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced Wednesday that he raised $1.14 million in campaign donations in 2012, giving him a total of $2.13 million. The $1.14 million raised in 2012 is a slight increase from his 2011 total when he took in $1.06 million. “I am humbled and grateful that so many people have chosen to support our vision for progress, economic growth, common sense and innovative solutions,” Ulman said in a statement. “I believe Maryland is the greatest state in the country, and I will continue to work hard to help us fulfill our potential.” Ulman is considered by many to be a candidate for governor in 2014, as he cannot run for Howard County Executive again due to term limits. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman said Monday he'd support a ban on assault weapons and regulations on gun magazine size as public officials across the country weigh in on gun policy after the deadly school shooting in Connecticut. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman dropped by Landover on Wednesday to pick up roadside trash in a Redskins jersey, fulfilling the terms of a wager with Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker. County Executive Ken Ulman said he plans to be in Prince George's County later this week picking up trash while singing 'Hail to the Redskins' and wearing a Redskins jersey after losing a bet to Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker.
