Sunday, March 17 Calls for service: 147 BURGLARY, 14900-BLK Ashford Court, 3:52PM: A citizen of the neighborhood observed a suspicious person to the rear of a vacant townhome in the neighborhood. This individual immediately contacted the Laurel Police department who responded promptly. Once on scene Officers discovered that the vacant home was not secure and could observe movement within. Laurel Crime: Driver Throws Cocaine Out Window, Arrests Made at DUI Checkpoint

A witness observed a male shoot a shotgun in the street and leave in a van. Officers later located the vehicle and found the suspect inside. Armed Robberies in Laurel, Kay's Diner Burglarized: Howard County Crime Reports

Laurel Robbery Police say on Feb. 24 at about 3 a.m., a man displaying a weapon approached two people on the 9600 block of Canterbury Riding. The man demanded their wallets, according to police, and the two victims complied. The burglar checked their wallets, found no money, then threw the wallets to the ground and fled toward Whiskey Bottom Road, according to police. The robber is described as a white male, 5-foot-7-to-5-foot-10 inches tall, weighing about 155 lbs. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and had a revolver-styled handgun.  That same day, someone called police at about 3:30 a.m. and said he had been robbed on the 9000 block of Canterbury Riding by someone wearing a ski mask and a gray hooded sweatshirt. Man Dies in Laurel Stabbing

Suspect taken into custody; fight reportedly escalated from verbal exchange.

A 46-year-old Savage man was found dead and a suspect has been taken into custody in Laurel following a stabbing Thursday night. Howard County police are investigating the death of Robert Lynn Foster of Savage, who was found dead Thursday outside Midway mobile home park, in the 10000 block of North 2nd Street of Laurel. Police were called to the park about 7:15 p.m. Thursday in response to a reported assault. Foster was found lying with stab wounds near the mobile home park's entrance. He was transported to Laurel Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A man identified by witnesses as the assailant has been taken into custody. WATCH: Police Charge Laurel Man in Large Marijuana-Growing Operation

Police said they found 341 plants worth $510,000 in the former Baltimore City Police Department civilian employee's home.

This story has been updated with suspect's background and potential penalties. Howard County police have charged a Laurel man, formerly a Baltimore police lab technician, in a marijuana-growing operation that police say involved hundreds of plants found in his basement. Manoj Unni, 30, the sole occupant of 9318 Cross Timbers Court, was charged Wednesday with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and possession of equipment to produce marijuana and drug manufacturing, according to a press release. He faces up to 16 years in prison and/or $46,000 in fines if convicted, according to court records. Police: Man Threatened Laurel Area Bank With Chemicals

The bank robbery is still under investigation by police. No one has been charged.

Anne Arundel police are looking for information on a man they said threatened the use of a “chemical weapon” to rob a PNC Bank in Maryland City. The incident occurred at about 5:38 p.m. Thursday at the PNC Bank at the 3300 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel, according to the Anne Arundel County police Facebook page. Police said the man passed a note that “threatened the use of a chemical weapon” and demanded money. He ran away with an unspecified amount of money. The man was carrying a bag he said contained the weapon, which he left behind, reported Explore Howard.
