Potential Powerball winner could be from Prince George's County, ABC7 news reports.
A man who recently walked into an Upper Marlboro Exxon may be holding a Powerball ticket bought in Arizona worth close to $200 million, according to a report from WJLA. Employees at the Marlboro Village Exxon told ABC7 reporter Jay Korff about the reaction of the man, captured on security camera video inside the store, who they say had a ticket with all of the winning numbers on it. Scott Peterson, press secretary for County Executive Rushern Baker, told Patch that Baker's official photographer was also in the store at the time the man learned he might be holding a winning powerball ticket and witnessed the scene unfold. Maryland Lottery officials announced the increase Tuesday morning.
The jackpot for Wednesday night's Powerball drawing was already the largest in the game's history at $425 million but Tuesday morning, lottery officials announced that the prize pool had increased. Wednesday's drawing will now be for a $500 million jackpot with a $327 million cash option, according to statement from Maryland Lottery spokeswoman Erica Palmisano. A record-setting Mega Millions jackpot helped pace the Maryland Lottery to a record of its own, with the agency reporting a 4.7 percent increase in sales over the previous fiscal year. The lottery said Monday that figures from fiscal year 2012 showed the 15th consecutive year of sales growth, despite greater competition from casinos and a dearth of new retail outlets. The lottery generated $1.795 billion in sales during fiscal year 2012, up $80.4 million from the year prior. On March 30, six white plastic balls, whose fate would otherwise have landed them in a cup of beer during a college beer pong competition, rolled out of a spinning machine and changed forever the lives of three Maryland public school employees. Over the past few days my mind has often dwelled upon these lucky Baltimore folks who just hit it big in the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot. The self-dubbed “Three Amigos” purchased the winning ticket at a 7-11 in the town of Milford Mill. After the March 30 drawing, each of the amigos immediately became $35 million dollars richer, approximately 583 times more money than the average yearly salary they likely receive as public school employees. Marlinde Wilson, the woman who says she has the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Maryland, held a press conference with her attorney.
Maryland Lottery spokeswoman Carole Everett told Patch Wednesday afternoon that no one has yet come forward with the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket sold Friday at a Milford Mill 7-Eleven. Meanwhile, Baltimore resident Marlinde Wilson still maintains she has that ticket. On Wednesday morning, Wilson and her attorney held a press conference. Wilson did not speak, according to a FOX News report, but her attorney Edward Smith asked the media "to not pester his client." Smith said her statement is "a legitimate claim," but he has not seen the ticket, the report states.
