On Wednesday, record high temperatures blasted the region, with BWI Airport reaching at least 90 degrees, breaking its record of 89 in 1922, according to the Capital Weather Blog on the Washington Post. Thursday is expected to reach a high near 76 in Howard County, the National Weather Service says, with showers likely at night.  There is also a threat of showers and thunderstorms Friday in Howard County with a high near 74. Wednesday Winter Storm Could Cause Power Outages, BGE Warns

A snowstorm is heading toward Central Maryland and Howard and Carroll counties, and may hit Tuesday.

Baltimore Gas and Electric is bringing in 500 extra workers to help with any power outages that might occur due to a potential winter storm Tuesday evening and Wednesday, according to a news release Monday afternoon. Wind gusts could get as strong as 50 mph, causing outages and even preventing the company's use of bucket trucks to make repairs right away, the release states. "Snow accumulations are forecasted to reach between six to 15 inches. Coupled with high wind gusts, heavy, wet snow can cover tree limbs, electric delivery equipment and power lines, and cause power outages," wrote BGE officials in a news release. A winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening, including in Maryland: from Frederick to …

Wintry Mix Thursday Night Could Create Icy Conditions in Howard County

The National Weather Service has issued the following statement.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook Thursday for Howard County and much of central and western Maryland warning residents to expect a wintry mix with possible freezing rain Thursday night into Friday morning. NWS is predicting less than a half an inch of sleet and snow accumulation possible overnight as well as a morning fog. Freezing rain is expected to stop by 4 a.m., although rain is likely to continue up until 4 p.m. Friday, according to NWS. However, the winter weather in this area pales in comparison to what is being predicted for the Northeast. Currently, the National Weather Service is predicting about one to two feet of snow to fall between Friday and Saturday for much of Southern New England, …

The National Weather Service says 1-3 inches of snow is possible for Howard County Thursday.

Winter Storm May Affect Region This Weekend

Forecasters aren't sure whether the county will see any significant snow—or just rain.

Howard and Carroll counties -- and much of the region -- could be in for another dose of winter weather this weekend, depending on how an approaching storm shapes up. The National Weather Service warns that a system moving in from the southeast "will likely impact portions of the Mid-Atlantic Saturday and Saturday night." "At this stage, rain or snow is possible depending on the storm track," it adds. The latest forecast for the area calls for a mix of rain and snow starting Saturday morning, then switching over to just rain by early afternoon. Snow may slip back into the picture Saturday evening as temperatures drop again. Though the NWS expects minimal accumulation over the course of the day, AccuWeather puts potential snowfall totals …
