Laurel Primary Voting Guide

Looking to vote tomorrow? Here’s a break down of what you need to know for the big day.

The presidential primary election hits Maryland on Tuesday, and for the first time in a while, it actually matters. “Probably the last time it was relevant was 35, 40 years ago,” said American University history professor Allan Lichtman, Ph.D., referring to the 1976 primary between Ronald Reagan and then-President Gerald Ford. Maryland’s primary on Tuesday is exactly three months after the first primary caucus in Iowa. Usually candidates have been selected by the time the primary comes to Maryland, but not this year. Locally, the races for Senate, House and school board, also, have a crowded field of contenders. Senatorial Race One of Maryland's two Senate seats is also up for grabs this election season. Early Voting Turnout 'Light' in Maryland

It’s been ‘slow and steady,’ according to one election official.

  Nearly 60,000 people in Maryland have turned out for early voting, a service the state started offering in 2010. The 59,716 people who turned out as of Wednesday represent 1.38 percent of eligible voters. There is still time to cast an early ballot on Thursday. Early voting in the state ends at 8 p.m. “I’m using the phrase ‘slow and steady,' " said Montgomery County Board of Elections spokeswoman Marjorie Roher. “There are not lines in most cases at all; normally there’s one or two people at each of the poll places.” Early voting started March 24 and ends at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29.  The Maryland primary is Tuesday, April 3. I really feel sorry for her, since she was not only given part of the Laurel area, but also all of Anne Arundel county to get around to in 4 months. She also broke her shoulder sometime since December.   more ›
