PGCC Students Lend Skills to Presidential Inauguration

Students will support Hargrove, a trade show management company, with event logistics.

Students from the hospitality and tourism department at Prince George’s Community College will get the job experience of a lifetime when they lend their skills to President Barack Obama's upcoming inauguration. “In addition to being a part of history, participating in the presidential inauguration will give our students a tremendous professional opportunity to work on a large scale event in the Washington, D.C. area,” said Joanna Lanzirotti, assistant professor of hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. From Jan. 14-21, 12 students will support Hargrove, a Prince George’s County-based trade show management company, in placing and preparing signs at the inauguration, among other tasks. Shred Your Documents for Free at Prince George's Community College

The county is holding a Community Shred event this Saturday, Dec. 8.

Have some personal documents you'd like to dispose of safely? Bring them to Prince George's Community College this Saturday, Dec. 8 for a Community Shred event. From 8 a.m. to 11 am., county residents can bring up to five archive boxes or trash bags of paper to the Largo campus to be shredded for free.  To participate, drivers must be in line by 11 a.m. at the intersection of Prince Place and Campus Way South. No walk-ins are allowed. Paper with staples or clips, empty binders, unwanted and expired credit cards, and computer disks will also be accepted. Business and commercial documents are not eligible. Shredded paper from the event will be recycled by Shred-It, while boxes will be recycled by the county. Some 59 tons of cardboard have …

PGCC Registration Opened Dec. 3

Prince George's Community College students have until Jan. 21 to complete registration.

Good news for local students looking past upcoming finals to the next semester—Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) registration for spring 2013 opened today. Students can register for PGCC classes at one of three camps locations: the student services wing of Bladen Hall on the Largo campus, PGCC at University Town Center in Hyattsville and Laurel College Center. Returning students can also register online here or by calling the information center at 301-322-0900. Kids Learn Sign Language, Life Skills and More At PGCC

A sign language class was a part of the Prince George's Community College's summer youth program.

  Eleven Prince George's County school-age children spent July learning sign language as a part of The Summer Youth Program at Prince George’s Community College. “Prince George’s Community College has developed an interactive program tailored to a child’s interest and educational needs,” says Denise Barino-Samuels, program coordinator, community education programs. “Instructors are professional members of their respective industries and the instructional strategy aligns with the Maryland State Curriculum,” she added. PGCC Offers New Healthcare Facility for Students

A new healthcare facility at Prince George's Community College was created to account for growth in the industry's job opportunities.

Prince George’s Community College has created a facility where students can have access to new technology and training for high-demand health care occupations.  According to the college, beginning Aug. 27, the new Center for Health Studies will offer 26 state-of-the-art simulation labs to give students real-world clinical experiences. PGCC Registration Begins August 13

New students can register for classes at three locations from Aug. 13-25.

Break out those backpacks, because registration for the 2012 fall semester of Prince George’s Community College begins August 13. Students will be able to able to apply, register, and pay for courses in the same day at three locations: the student services wing of Bladen Hall at the Largo campus, PGCC at the University Town Center in Hyattsville, and Laurel College Center. “The college utilizes a streamlined registration process that leverages the latest technology and a well-trained staff to ensure students are on the correct path to reach their educational goals,” Tracy Harris, dean of enrollment service, said in a statement. Pr. George's Community College to Offer Solar Energy Training

Prince George's Community College plans to offer an introductory training course in solar energy that will prepare students for entry-level jobs in the field.

Prince George’s Community College is offering a course that will allow students interested in solar energy to pursue career opportunities in the subject. According to the college, passing the entry-level solar course, Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics, will allow students to apply for jobs as assistants where solar panels are being fitted by certified installers. “Prince George’s Community College is committed to providing instruction in renewable energy,” Ricky Godbolt, program director of the Construction and Energy Institute, said in a statement.
