Baltimore Ravens linebacker 'Ray Lewis' said he would be heading to a celestial place if the Ravens win the Super Bowl.
It wasn't really Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis appearing on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" over the weekend, but Keenan Thompson stood in effectively. Thompson played the effusive linebacker to perfection. He brought the energy, the emotion and of course, the face paint. Watch his exchange with SNL's Seth Meyers above. The best lines: Meyers: A lot of us saw you cry last week during the National Anthem. Thompson: It's just I've never heard that song before. Meyers: You've been playing football your whole life? Thompson: I know, but, I always wear ear plugs before games to block out the sound of my own screams. At the end of the exchange, 'Lewis' explains what's going to happen if the Ravens win the Super Bowl: Thompson: I was …

The linebacker is in his 17th season with the Ravens.
Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis will retire at the end of the team's run in the current postseason. Lewis made the announcement while speaking to the media early Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens' Twitter feed said he told the team, "This will be my last ride." Lewis, the MVP of the Ravens' last Super Bowl in 2001, will have spent his entire 17-season career with Baltimore. Lewis, a first-round pick for the Ravens in 1996 (their first season in Baltimore) has been selected for 13 Pro Bowls and has three times been named the AFC defensive player of the year, in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Video will be added to this story as soon as it is available. You tell us: What is your favorite Ray Lewis moment? What will you miss most about him?

Fans will get a first real-time look at the Ravens squad Thursday night.
The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the Atlanta Falcons tonight in the first pre-season game for both teams, but not every player expected to start Week 1 will be on the field today. Of course, the biggest loss for the Ravens this offseason was the achilles tendon injury to linebacker Terrell Suggs, who will miss at least a portion of the season. And tight end Dennis Pitta's injured hand certainly got pre-season workouts off on a low note. What do you hope to see in the Ravens-Falcons preseason game? Tell us in the comments. But the Ravens also are taking the safe approach with several players they hope will be key to reaching the Super Bowl, including cornerback Jimmy Smith, center Matt Birk and some of the "senior veterans" as …

A New England fan is among you!
“I am a stranger in a strange land.” I said this to someone behind me in line at Cindy’s Spirits this past Sunday, a line wholly comprised of Ravens fans waiting for the AFC Championship…and one lone schmuck, wearing the opposition’s jersey. I was that schmuck, and this is my story. There is a widely held myth that Boston sports fans sprang out of the woodwork after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. This myth holds that after their championship win, every person with some tie to any tiny town between northern New Jersey and Toronto took hold of Boston sports teams in the most pathetic frontrunner manner possible and never looked back. As evidence, believers in this myth tend to point to pink Red Sox hats and Fever Pitch. However, …

Super fans and followers in the Free State.
How many friends do you have? If you live in Maryland, chances are, quite a few – at least in the world of social networking. The state ranks 34th among the states in terms of percentage of Facebook account holders and 23rd for Twitter account holders. DCI Group Digital, part of the DCI Group public affairs company in Washington, D.C., compared each state’s Facebook and Twitter accounts to numbers from the 2010 census. If only Joe Flacco could play baseball, too...
She: Purple lights. The Howard County government buildings in Ellicott City are lit up with purple lights in hopes of a Super Bowl run by the Baltimore Ravens. If the Ravens end up winning the Super Bowl, County Executive Ken Ulman might be onto something. He: Does that mean they’ll go with orange lights when the Orioles make the playoffs? She: Who knows when that might be... better go with the orange lights for spring training. He: You have no faith. She: I’m realistic… you don’t want to waste the light bulbs…
