I am a 49-year resident of historic Laurel with the marvellous Laurel PD as my next-door neighbours. With LPD's HQ as a "protective bubble" in my immediate neighbourhood (nearly a mile from the Middletowne slums), I have no reason to move. As for the ghetto, how does one go about ridding the 14800-14700 blocks of Section 8 housing, gang-bangers, and the sort of criminally-minded "citizens" whose …   more ›

Report: Three Tenants Confirmed for Laurel Towne Centre

Regal Cinemas, Harris Teeter and Burlington Coat Factory have all been confirmed as tenants, reports the Gazette.

Regal Cinemas and Harris Teeter will join Burlington Coat Factory at the new Towne Centre at Laurel, which is expected to open in May 2014, reports the Gazette.  The $200 million development project, which broke ground in August 2012, will have 400,000 square feet of retail space and is expected to bring 1,000 to 1,500 new jobs to the area, city officials told the Gazette. Although only three tenants have signed on to the project, residents and city officials have expressed enthusiasm about the development. According to the Gazette, earlier this month the Laurel City Council said the city would issue up to $15.5 in million tax increment financing (TIF) bonds to help fund infrastructure improvements related to the project.   Read the full …

Also, way to much congestion on the roads... I can literally drive …   more ›

Laurel Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer

Authorities said the 23-year-old was found with a variety of law enforcement-style lights and equipment in his vehicle.

A Laurel resident was charged with impersonating an officer Saturday after authorities found extensive law enforcement-type equipment in his vehicle, according to Bowie police. Erick Shawn Cooke, 23, of Laurel was arrested alongside Deonte Monchez Callaham, 21, of Washington, D.C. and Demetrius Charles Callaham, 24, of Washington, D.C. outside of Regal Bowie Cinema (15200 Major Lansdale Blvd.). According to Bowie police, an officer on patrol around 12:05 a.m. noticed the three men "loitering and acting disorderly" next to a vehicle near the side entrance of the theatre. The vehicle, which police later determined belonged to Cooke, had "colored LED flashing lights in the grill and the dashboard area of the vehicle." Police said the officer …
