Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill is moving into a location off Dobbin Road.
Do you get cravings for handmade pitas and chicken shwarma? Then a new Columbia restaurant may be the place to try. Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill is scheduled to open one of their do-it-yourself style pita restaurants early February 2013 in Dobbin Center, just off Snowden River Parkway, according to Beth Hardy, marketing manager for Garbanzo. Modeled after restaurants such as Chipotle, Garbanzo offers customers a choice of three entrees—pita, laffa, or plate—which can be combined with proteins such as chicken shwarma, steak shwarma, falafel or hummus. The Ale House Columbia opened its doors to the public on Tuesday. "It has been an 8-month project," said co-owner Donald Kelly. "But now we're going to be here for 20-plus years. We're happy to be open and be a part of the community." Inside, the finished restaurant has an industrial look, with aluminum bars, silver taps and exposed ventilation systems. The lakefront restaurant will be getting its first renovations in 25 years, according to its president.
Clyde's has been a staple of the Columbia lakefront for more than 30 years, which is why Tom Meyer says the location is long overdue for a makeover. Meyer, president of Clyde's Restaurant Group, told Patch the restaurant will be on a new lease and will see several changes from renovations starting in late January. "It has been over 25 years since we were able to renovate the place, and we just needed to do it," Meyer said. The specifics of the renovation have not been finalized, but he gave a hint at what changes are coming. "Basically, we're going to completely redo the men's and women's rooms, we're going to do some work behind the scenes in the kitchen and the floors," Meyer said. "We're trying to do as much garden-to-table and handmade food as possible," said executive chef Daniel Wecker.
Outside of the big northeast cities, finding a historical setting for a nice romantic meal can be difficult. Not in historic Elkridge. The Elkridge Furnace Inn, on Furnace Avenue, has a building older than the United States, according to executive chef Daniel Wecker. "We're part of a historic complex," Wecker told Patch, citing the original furnace structure, which was built in 1744, and two wood buildings he believes were once slaves quarters. Wecker makes sure the menu for his restaurant is anything but rustic, as he constantly adds new items with the changing seasons. BGR The Burger Joint in Columbia will give away free burgers on Tuesday to celebrate its one year anniversary.
Eating out for lunch or dinner on Tuesday? Swing by BGR The Burger Joint on Columbia Crossing Circle in Columbia between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to receive a free burger or cheeseburger. The fast-food burger chain, which has 18 locations and was founded in Bethesda, will be celebrating its one-year anniversary at its Columbia location by giving out free burgers to customers, according to a BGR spokesperson. Also on hand will be representatives from the ALS Association. They will be accepting donations for their research into fighting Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
