Authorities in Prince George's County confronted the Silver Spring man Wednesday in a Calverton parking lot.
Authorities say a man high on PCP shot another man in Calverton before stripping off his clothes and climbing onto a fire truck. Mohamed Sulaiman Bah, 24, of Silver Spring faces attempted murder, first degree assault, and other related charges in connection with the incident, according to Prince George's County police. Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the 11900 block of Beltsville Drive for a report of a car accident, PGPD officials said in a statement. When police arrived, they reportedly found a man in the back seat of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Graduate student Dayvon Maurice Green took his life after firing on his roommates, killing one.
Editor's note: Early Tuesday morning, two University of Maryland students were left dead and another injured in a shooting on 36th Ave. in College Park. Police say that the gunman, identified as 23-year-old graduate student Dayvon Maurice Green, set several fires around his house before shooting two of his roommates when they came outside. One—Stephen Alex Rane, 22, of Silver Spring—was later pronounced dead, while another suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Green then turned the gun on himself, according to police. On Tuesday afternoon, Prince George's County police identified the alleged shooter from an early morning murder-suicide in College Park as 23-year-old Dayvon Maurice Green. According to police, Green was an engineering graduate student at the University of Maryland. Speaking to reporters outside the scene of the shooting, UMD President Wallace Loh said he believed Green had been at the university for about a year. Green earned his undergraduate degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore, officials said. A Columbia man was sentenced to 70 years after he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before the conclusion of his retrial.
The retrial of a Columbia man previously convicted of first-degree murder came to an abrupt end on Monday when the man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder at Howard County Circuit Court. The sixth day of the retrial was set to get underway, when prosecutors and the defense attorney announced that a plea agreement had been reached. That was when Antajuan Lawntee Wilson, 23, pleaded guilty to the 2008 Wilde Lake murder he was previously convicted of in December of 2008, according to Wayne Kirwan, spokesperson for the Howard County state's attorney's office. Jeff Mount of Krav Maga Maryland said the key to survival in an active shooting scenario is decisiveness in the moment. "To freeze is the most dangerous option," said Mount, 30, the director of operations and lead instructor at Krav Maga Maryland, a self defense school in Columbia. One year after 36-year-old Russett resident Gregory Sears was gunned down outside of his home, authorities are continuing their search for his killers, WJZ reports. Sears—who lived in the 8000 block of Ians Alley—was shot in his driveway after being approached by two males in the early morning hours of Jan. 6, 2012, according to Anne Arundel County police. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he died. The incident, which marked the first murder in the Russett community in more than 10 years, left many in the area stunned.
