Surging SUV Strikes Man, House in South Laurel

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A man suffered non-life threatening injuries in South Laurel over the weekend when an SUV "surge[d]" into him before crashing into the wall of his house, authorities said. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon in the 9100 block of Contee Road, according to Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady. The man was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, Brady tweeted. The home sustained cosmetic damage but remains structurally sound.

Investigators Seek Clues in South Laurel Killings; $25,000 Reward Offered

Police are still working to identify a suspect and motive in last week's incident.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the twin killings of Tina Lynn Towler and James Vell Ferguson, the South Laurel couple found slain in their apartment last Thursday. According to police, a nurse who cares for Towler's severely disabled daughter discovered their bodies when she arrived at their home in the 9600 block of Muirkirk Road that morning. Towler, 45, and Ferguson, 42, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The 25-year-old daughter, who suffers from paraplegia and cerebral palsy, was also found in the apartment. Couple's Slaying Rocks South Laurel; Disabled Daughter Found Unharmed

The bodies of a man and woman in their 40s were discovered Thursday at their apartment on Muirkirk Road.

Police say a severely disabled woman was found shaken but unhurt Thursday near the bodies of her mother and her mother's partner—the apparent victims of a double homicide in their South Laurel apartment. Tina Towler, 45, and James Vell Ferguson, 42, were found dead at their home in the 9600 block of Muirkirk Road, according to Prince George's County police. PGPD spokeswoman Julie Parker said two patrol officers responded to the Montpelier Crossing complex around 8:15 a.m. to check on the occupants of the apartment. When they arrived, they encountered the bodies of Towler and Ferguson in their first floor apartment, both apparently suffering from upper body trauma. The two were pronounced dead at the scene. South Laurel Teen Charged With Firing BB Gun at Police Officer

The incident occurred Friday on Contee Road.

A South Laurel teen was arrested Friday after allegedly firing a BB gun at a police officer, according to Prince George's County Police. Andre Christopher Rivers, 16, of the 13500 block of Attleboro Court is being charged as an adult in the case. Police said the officer was driving on Contee Road in South Laurel around 6 p.m. when he heard a projectile strike the driver's side door of his marked cruiser. Believing he was being fired on, the officer requested backup to conduct a search of the area. Officers soon stopped Rivers near the intersection of Edinburgh Lane and Contee Road, according to the PGPD, where he was taken into custody without incident and held on a $75,000 bond. The highest median income levels in the Laurel area are more than three times greater than the lowest, according to census tract data presented by the website Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks. Using figures from the American Community Survey, the site displays income and rent levels for the approximately 74,000 census tracts across the country. The Laurel area—the City of Laurel, South Laurel, West Laurel, North Laurel, and Maryland City—is contained by 22 such tracts. The highest median household income in the area—$158,750 a year—is that of 6068.05, one of five tracts comprising North Laurel. South Laurel Teen Charged in Wheaton Deli Armed Robbery

Police found the suspect less than 10 minutes after receiving the report of the crime.

Montgomery County police caught up with an 18-year-old from South Laurel less than 10 minutes after he was suspected of robbing a Wheaton deli at gunpoint Friday afternoon. Damien West, of the 9400 block of Rosemarin Way in South Laurel, is charged with armed robbery, the use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, possession of a handgun, and theft of $1,000 to under $10,000. West walked into the deli at 11413 Georgia Avenue on Feb. 8, showed a handgun to the 47-year-old female employee and demanded money, police said in a statement. After the employee gave the suspect money from the cash register, police said, West ordered her to lie on the floor before he fled the scene. Fire Engine Collides With Car in South Laurel, Sending Woman to Hospital

A woman was sent to the hospital Sunday afternoon after a fire engine collided with her vehicle in South Laurel, authorities said. The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. as responders were headed to a possible apartment fire in the 13800 block of Briarwood Drive. According to Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady, an engine from the Calverton Fire/EMS Station collided with the victim's car at the intersection of Contee Road and Claxton Drive. Two Construction Workers Injured in Fall From Laurel-Area Building

The men reportedly dropped 20 feet, suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two workers suffered serious injuries Thursday when they took a fall at a Laurel-area construction site, fire officials said. The men reportedly dropped about 20 feet from the second story of a building going up near Muirkirk Road and Old Baltimore Pike. Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene around 11:30 a.m. The workers were treated and transported to a trauma center with "non-life-threatening injuries," Brady said. A third worker was struck by falling debris but was not admitted to the hospital. The cause of the fall was not immediately known.
