Blood in Syringe Used in CVS Robbery HIV-Negative

Suspect allegedly said blood was tainted with HIV.

The suspect in the April 18 syringe-point robbery of an Ellicott City pharmacy walked into the store, donned a mask and sunglasses and produced a syringe, holding it to a pharmacist’s chest and telling her “AIDS syringe” before demanding drugs, according to charging documents. The syringe was filled with blood, according to Howard County police, but that blood was not tainted with HIV, spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said Tuesday.  Because of privacy laws, Llewellyn said she could not disclose the source of the blood.  Benjamin Frederick Blessing, 52, of Golden Sky Court in Columbia, was indicted May 31 on two counts of armed robbery, assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the robbery of CVS Pharmacy on Centennial Lane. Columbia Man Indicted in Bloody Syringe Robbery

Benjamin Blessing is accused of holding up a pharmacy with what he said was AIDS-tainted blood.

A Columbia man has been indicted by a Howard County grand jury on charges he held up an Ellicott City pharmacy with a bloody syringe, as well as for robbery charges in an incident at a Bank of America branch in Columbia. The indictments were announced Thursday by Howard County Attorney’s office officials. Benjamin Blessing, 52, of the 5200 block of Golden Sky Court, Columbia, was indicted on two counts of armed robbery, assault and reckless endangerment charges, according to indictment documents. Police: Suspect Charged in Robbery at Syringe-Point

Police say suspect claimed the syringe, filled with blood, was tainted with AIDS.

A man whom police say held up a pharmacist with a syringe that he claimed contained AIDS-tainted blood is facing robbery and assault charges. Howard County Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said Benjamin Frederick Blessing, 52, of Golden Sky Court in Columbia also faces charges in an October robbery, in which a woman, with her daughter, was robbed at an ATM in Columbia. On April 18, police responded to a CVS Pharmacy on Centennial Lane at about 4:20 a.m. Employees said a man walked into the store, headed to the pharmacy counter and showed a syringe.  Employees told police that the suspect held the syringe near the pharmacist’s chest and said it contained AIDS-tainted blood.
