UPDATE: Laurel Student Threatened to 'Shoot and Kill Others,' Police Say

The student reportedly had access to guns, leading authorities to believe there was a credible threat.

Updated below. A Laurel High School student has been hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation after threatening to commit acts of violence and "possibly shoot and kill others," according to a city official. Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the City of Laurel, said the alleged threats were first brought to the attention of a teacher on Monday by concerned classmates.  That information was passed to a school security official, who then notified the Laurel Police Department. Investigators found the student's statements to be a "credible threat," Piringer said, in part because he was believed to have access to guns. Good to see classmates reported the threats to a teacher; they may have saved lives. Need to pay attention to people who seem in distress and/or make threats and take it seriously. Too often in past incidents the shooter did make comments but friends and classmates ignored them. Well done this time.   more ›

WorldStarHipHop Spotlighted After Long Reach Video

The website publishes a constant stream of controversial videos.

By now, it seems almost everyone in Howard County has seen the controversial video. In the 27-second clip, a man in a ski mask approaches a student at Long Reach High School, both of them raise their fists, and then the student knocks the man out with one punch. As of noon on Monday, the video has garnered over 970,000 hits on the controversial website WorldStarHipHop.com. The site publishes about 30 videos per day. Most feature hip hop artists, buxom women, personal stories or fights. The fight videos appear to be by far the most popular videos on the site, based on viewership statistics.
