Despite Friday morning’s sunny skies and mild temperatures, the National Weather Service is forecasting hazardous weather beginning Friday afternoon and persisting through the weekend Temperatures will reach the mid-50s Friday. Clouds will begin to cover the sky as the day goes on and light rain/snow is expected late Friday afternoon, beginning around 5 p.m. Temperatures will drop to the low 30s at night and rain should turn to snow early Saturday morning. Well, we didn’t get any snow this week, and likely won’t see any this weekend, according to the National Weather Service, but there’s a chance yet that we’ll see some of the white stuff soon. Today will be cold, with temperatures reaching the mid-30s and winds gusting as fast as 28 mph at times. Skies will stay clear all day and through the night, when temperatures drop to the mid-20s. Is it time to go to the pool yet?
Feeling a bit of the post-holiday doldrums? There’s a chance this weekend’s warmth could cure that. Although Friday afternoon might usher in some rain (there is an 80 percent chance), the short-term forecast for Howard and Carroll counties shows temperatures reaching the 60s by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. And Saturday’s no slouch either, with temperatures reaching a high of 57 degrees. There is a small chance of rain Monday, with a high of 56. Howard County will get another round of snow before the new year begins, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters are predicting between 1 to 4 inches to fall on Saturday. Snow will start falling overnight Friday through late Saturday afternoon in Howard County, according to the National Weather Service forecast. The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the Baltimore-Washington area—including Carroll, Howard and Montgomery counties—which is to continue into Saturday. The Maryland State Highway Administration urges drivers to stay off the roads on Saturday morning, adding that the storm could disrupt traffic along the Interstate 95 corridor. What did we do to deserve this weekend forecast? Obviously something good. According to the National Weather Service, 'sun' is the word this weekend, and we'll see milder fall-like temperatures, too. Today, temperatures will hit the mid-50s and drop to the high 30s at night. Chance of rain lingers all weekend, both here and at the beaches.
Looks like it will be hard to escape the chance of rain this weekend anywhere in the area, from DC and Maryland to the Delmarva beaches, according to the National Weather Service. On the bright side, we'll get a welcome break from the extreme heat of early August. Here in the Montgomery and Prince George's counties, clouds are already rolling in, with showers and thunderstorms expected to follow later this evening around 9 p.m. A few showers and storms will continue overnight, and lows will fall into the 70s. This weekend, you’d have to travel far to escape the threat of rain. From suburban Maryland out to the coast, there’s a 20-to-30 percent chance of rain just about everywhere. But, if you must try the beach, it looks like your best bet is Virginia Beach, where there’s just a 20 percent chance of rain every day until Sunday. Actual temperatures will hit triple-digits this weekend in HoCo.
A heat wave is on the way. That’s right, on the way. It’s going to get hotter. According to the National Weather Service, a Midwest weather pattern moving our way will be “Reintroducing record breaking heat to the Mid-Atlantic states … over the next couple of days.” There is a cold front behind that weather pattern, according to NWS, but, “Much of the Mid-Atlantic will have to wait an additional day before the front can put a significant dent in temperatures across that region.” And, just for good measure, “Scattered storms may accompany the front.” In Howard County this weekend: Today will be sunny, hot and humid.
