No new break-ins are believed to be related since police issued a warning last week.
The investigation into a string of brazen daytime door kick-in burglaries in Howard County continues after police warned residents to be vigilant last week. Howard County Police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn wrote in an email that police have not apprehended a suspect and are unable to provide a suspect’s description at this time. She said the investigation is active. Since police released information related to the burglaries on Sept. 27, there hasn’t been a burglary with a similar style in Howard County, according to Llewellyn. The 10 break-ins believed to be connected happened over the course of three days from Sept. 24 – 26. Less than a week before summer's end, Alex's Snowball and Ice Cream Stand in Woodbine was broken into, according to Howard County Police. Sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, suspects pried open a side door, then pried open the cash register, taking money from the store on the 16000 block of Frederick Road, according to police. The suspects also pried open a safe on the second floor, and took money from it. Police say the suspects also tried to get into the main office, but could not pry open the front door. Police report an unknown suspect or suspects shattered the front glass windows of 11 different restaurants and businesses overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Howard County police are looking for a suspect or group of suspects that shattered front glass windows and stole cash from 11 different businesses in east Columbia between the overnight hours of May 29 and 30. Police believe the incidents are related because of the similarity of the burglaries. The following locations were struck: 6400 block of Dobbin Center Way: 9400 block of Snowden River Parkway: 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road: 6400 block of Dobbin Road: Detectives are investigating the incidents. Similar robberies occurred on May 22 along Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City. Howard County Police say incidents may be related.
Howard County Police officials said two smash-and-grab incidents at Route 1 businesses over Wednesday night could be related. Sometime between the night of Dec. 14 and the following morning, an unknown number of suspects broke the glass door of Kabob House and stole cash. During the same time period, someone also broke into Asian One Restaurant, less than a quarter mile away, and stole a cash drawer. "These two break-ins occurred in the same time frame, with nearby proximity and similar items targeted. Police are looking into the possibility the same suspects may be responsible," said department spokesperson Elizabeth Schroen.
