Armed Robbery at Sonseta Suites: Howard County Crime Reports

Columbia Armed Robbery – Sonesta Suites A man entered the Sonseta Suites in the 8800 block of Columbia Parkway and pointed a gun at an employee while demanding money around 5 a.m. on April 4. The employee complied, and then the man demanded a safe be opened. At that point, a second employee walked in, unaware of the robbery in progress. The armed man took property from one of the employees and then fled the scene. Residential Burglary Someone broke into a residence in the 10300 block of Swiftstream Place through an open rear slider and stole two videogames and three pieces of luggage in the evening on April 4. Burglar Flees After Homeowner Returns: Howard County Crime Reports

Columbia Residential Burglary A man returned to his home in the 10300 block of Painted Cup to find another man coming down his stairs with his wife’s jewelry box at 7 p.m. on Feb. 26. Upon seeing the homeowner, the man fled out a rear sliding door. Police reported a rear kitchen window was pried open to gain entry. Someone used an unknown tool to punch a hole in the glass on a rear French door at a residence in the 10100 block of Hyla Brook Road between 2:30 and 8 p.m. on Feb. 27. A safe containing cash, passports and other personal papers was stolen. A television, laptop, electronic gaming system and a duffle bag were stolen from a residence in the 10100 block of Hyla Brook Road on Feb. 27 around 11 a.m. A rear door was forced open to …

Armed Robberies in Laurel, Kay's Diner Burglarized: Howard County Crime Reports

Laurel Robbery Police say on Feb. 24 at about 3 a.m., a man displaying a weapon approached two people on the 9600 block of Canterbury Riding. The man demanded their wallets, according to police, and the two victims complied. The burglar checked their wallets, found no money, then threw the wallets to the ground and fled toward Whiskey Bottom Road, according to police. The robber is described as a white male, 5-foot-7-to-5-foot-10 inches tall, weighing about 155 lbs. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and had a revolver-styled handgun.  That same day, someone called police at about 3:30 a.m. and said he had been robbed on the 9000 block of Canterbury Riding by someone wearing a ski mask and a gray hooded sweatshirt. Armed Robbery on Windstream Drive: Howard County Crime Reports

  Columbia Armed Robbery - Windstream Drive A woman was robbed by a man who approached her parked vehicle and displayed a gun near the 10000 bock of Windstream Drive on Jan. 31 around 9 p.m. The woman gave the man money, he demanded more, and when she told him she had no more, he fled. Police described the suspect as a thin black male, abut 5-foot-6 inches, wearing a gray or white hooded sweatshirt and carrying a small pistol. Commercial Burglary Attempt - Eden Brook Apartments A witness saw a person wearing dark clothing exit the fitness center at Dominion/ Eden Brook Apartments near the 7300 block of Eden Brook Drive, but nothing appeared to be missing when police responded around 9 p.m. on Jan. 30. Indictment For Man Accused of Countywide Burglaries

The Howard County man faces more than a half-dozen burglary charges.

A Howard County man has been indicted on several burglary charges in a string of home invasions that date back to last summer. Police say they caught Robert W. Stone, who has an address in Elkridge and one in Columbia listed in court records, on the 1000 block of Ridermark Row. According to police, officers were investigating a stolen vehicle on Nov. 22 when they saw Stone walking past a house wearing a mask, dark clothes and gloves. Police said when Stone saw them, he tried to get into the car they had been investigating and drive away, but they were able to detain him.  During the ensuing investigation, police say they found evidence that linked Stone to several other break-ins, including one in July on the 6800 block of Creekside Road …

Parents Sort Out Alleged Robbery: Crime Roundup

Ellicott City Residential burglary A woman told police that her daughter reported missing some belongings from their home on the 4900 block of Lee Farm Court after having friends over in September. The daughter reported makeup, a gift card, an iPod charger and a house key missing.  On Dec. 17 the girl reported items missing from her room again, though there were no signs of forced entry. Police determined that two neighbors, both juveniles, were responsible for the burglary and had used the key from the first burglary to break in in December. Except for the gift card, police said all of the property was returned. The victim did not want to press charges, police said. Parents said they would handle matters among themselves. A resident …

Columbia Armed Robbery – Hayshed Lane Three unknown suspects armed with a handgun reportedly struck a male victim and stole an iPod near the 8800 block of Hayshed Lane on Nov. 30 at approximately 5 p.m. Robbery – Cloudleap Court A male victim was allegedly assaulted by two suspects who demanded money near the 8700 block of Cloudleap CT around 3:49 p.m. on Dec. 2. The victim resisted the two male suspects and prevented them from taking anything. One suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 30-35 years old, 5’8”, with black hair and wearing a hoodie and blue jeans. No description of the second suspect was given. See Something, Text Police with iWatch

A new mobile app gives residents a new way to connect with police.

The Howard County Police Department has announced that residents can now use an app to anonymously send crime tips.  Howard County is the first in the state to use iWatchHowardCounty, according to a statement released by the police department. Using the app, people can send a text, picture or video to the police department. “We think this tool is invaluable,” Police Chief William McMahon said in a statement. He said the app will not replace 911, but will work more like the police tip-line. “Once users download the app, they can be the eyes and ears of their communities with a direct and immediate link to law enforcement,” he said. Elkridge Man Forced to Drive Burglars to His Home: Crime Roundup

Elkridge Robbery On Nov. 13 at about 4:10 p.m., an Elkridge man was in Baltimore when he was forced into his car by a two men - one with a gun - and told to direct them to his home and get money, according to police. The man arrived at his home on the 5900 block of Autumn Spell where the two stole money, according to police.  The two then left in the victim’s vehicle. One of the two men struck the victim, cutting him near his eye, police said. Armed Robbery in Mall Parking Lot, Chat Line Date Gone Wrong: Crime Roundup

    Columbia: A victim told police that he was robbed at gunpoint at The Mall in Columbia on Nov. 2, just before 9 p.m..  According to the victim, three men approached him in the parking lot of the AMC Theater and struck up a conversation, then demanded money. According to the victim, one of the suspects showed a handgun. The victim told police that he gave one of the men his wallet, and then they got in a black Volkswagen and drove away. The victim got in his car, called 911, and followed them to Green Mountain Circle, according to police. Officers stopped the suspects and arrested three Columbia men, ages 18, 18 and 19.
