Maryland Scientists Battling America’s Top Invasive Insect: Stinkbugs

Scientist in Beltsville are working to fight the obnoxious pest that invades homes and eats crops.

  There are pests lurking in the woods nearby, hiding out in dead trees, waiting for the end of winter. Occasionally, you find them on your lamps, your windowsills, or in your storage space. Farmers find them on their peaches, sweet corn and soybeans. They move slow, smell bad. They are the Department of Agriculture’s top invasive insect of interest and possibly Maryland’s most annoying bug: the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug (BMSB). Not far from Howard County,  scientists at the Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville are attempting to locate weaknesses, habits or predators that will control their rampant population growth in North America. Police Shoot, Kill Baltimore Man in Columbia

The man was wanted in Baltimore City on a warrant for first- and second-degree assault, as well as gun charges, according to police.

For more information on the suspect see the latest article - http://patch.com/A-wPDn Original Story A Howard County police officer shot and killed a Baltimore man in Columbia Thursday evening after he allegedly held his estranged girlfriend at gunpoint, said police. The estranged girlfriend reported that the man, whose identity has not yet been released, had broken into her home just after midnight on Thursday and awakened her by putting a gun to her head, according to police.  Police said the woman was held overnight as the suspect assaulted her. If she was allowed to have a taser, She might have protected herself. Thanks to myopic rules Howard County is one of five counties in the entire US that does not allow non-lethal tasers as a form of defense. I can buy a shot gun that will always kill someone, but not a taser.   more ›
