College Park Shooter Dayvon Maurice Green: What We Know

Sources described a likable engineering student with a strong academic record—and a mental illness.

On Tuesday afternoon, Prince George's County police identified the alleged shooter from an early morning murder-suicide in College Park as 23-year-old Dayvon Maurice Green. According to police, Green was an engineering graduate student at the University of Maryland. Speaking to reporters outside the scene of the shooting, UMD President Wallace Loh said he believed Green had been at the university for about a year. Green earned his undergraduate degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore, officials said. The Baltimore Sun reports that he was a member of Phi Beta Sigma's Gamma chapter and maintained a grade point average above 3.5. Two Dead in Murder-Suicide in Laurel

A man and women were found dead in their apartment on Sunday, authorities said.

  Two people are dead after a murder-suicide that occurred in Laurel over the weekend, according to Prince George’s County police. The incident happened around 7 p.m. Sunday in an apartment complex along the 11200 block of Basswood Terrace. Police said they responded to calls of a reported shooting. When police entered the apartment, they found Aeris Lashay Beard, 19, and Adam Clayton Owsley, of the same residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said both persons were pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, Beard and Owsley were involved in an “on-again-off again relationship” and shared an infant son, who was not in the apartment at the time. UPDATE: Police ID Suspect in Murder-Suicide

Police have identified a 38-year-old Washington, D.C., man.

The man who police believe is responsible for the shooting death of a Laurel woman yesterday morning has been identified as Javan Terrance Abney. According to police, Abney, 38, of Washington D.C., allegedly gunned down Brandice Jones, 26, in the parking lot of her apartment complex Wednesday morning along the 14700 block of Shilot Court while her 10-year-old child stood next to her. Within 10 minutes of the shooting, Abney shot himself along Cherry Lane and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to police. According to court records, Abney has criminal record stretching back to 1992. In the District, he had been charged with three felonies by 2002, though those cases were later dismissed. I was there yesterday on the scene. My daughters bus stop is at the rental office in Summerlyn Place. Brandis was shot in front of her 3 children, one was her 10yr old DAUGHTER. I stood with her 2 younger children, a boy and girl who appeared to be 6 and 7. I stayed wirh them at the playground until the police came and got them. So very sad.   more ›
