Motion to Move Wilde Lake High Rape Case to Juvenile Court Denied

DeShawn Jones, 17, will be tried as an adult after a motion by his attorney to move the case to juvenile court was denied on Friday.

  A Howard County Circuit Court judge denied a request Friday to move a 17-year-old Wilde Lake High School student’s rape case to juvenile court DeShawn Jones, 17, was charged with rape and assault for allegedly attacking a 14-year-old girl inside the choir room at Wilde Lake High School on Feb. 4, while school was in session. During the motions hearing on Friday, Jones sat next to his defense attorney in a gray correctional jumpsuit. Prosecutors said Jones had an extensive juvenile criminal record and that at 17 he was an almost an adult. They said there was no place in the juvenile system to put the defendant due to the nature of his crime and that he may be a threat to public safety. Columbia Teen Indicted for Alleged Wilde Lake High Rape

Deshawn Jones was indicted on second-degree rape charges this week.

The  Columbia 17-year-old who is accused of raping a 14-year-old student inside Wilde Lake High School was indicted on rape and assault charges by a Howard County grand jury this week. DeShawn Rasheed Jones, of the 6000 block of Laurel Wreath Way, was indicted as an adult on second-degree rape and second-degree assault charges after he allegedly raped the 14-year-old girl inside an unoccupied choir practice room at the school on Feb. 4, according to court records. The police report notes Jones tried to persuade the girl to go to a number of different rooms in the school, including the roof, before bringing her to the choir room. Police: Wilde Lake High Rape Occurred in Choir Room

Police provided a more detailed outline in court documents of what they said happened at Wilde Lake High School earlier this week.

  The 14-year-old female who accused a fellow student of raping her at Wilde Lake High School told police the incident happened Monday inside a choir room, according to the statement of probable cause filed in court documents. Police said that the school provided evidence that shows the girl and DeShawn Rasheed Jones, 17, entering and leaving the choir room, as well as the 14-year-old taking one of her friends to the restroom after it happened, according to the documents. Jones is currently being held on $500,000 bond, according to court officials. He is being charged as an adult with second-degree rape, second-degree assault and false imprisonment. Columbia Student Charged in Wilde Lake High School Rape

Police said a 17-year-old was charged with second-degree rape after an incident on Monday.

A 17-year-old Wilde Lake High School student was charged with rape after police said he assaulted a 14-year-old female student inside an unoccupied classroom inside the high school. Man Pleads Guilty to 1990 Murder of Beltsville Woman

Thomas Lee Posey, 57, also admitted to two rapes from the same period.

A 57-year-old man has admitted to killing a Beltsville woman nearly 23 years after the crime occurred, according to Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. Thomas Lee Posey pled guilty to first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree rape dating to 1990. He was sentenced to life in prison after entering the plea before Prince George’s County Circuit Judge Albert Northrop. According to a statement from Alsobrooks, Posey raped and murdered 22-year-old Margaret Perkins in June of 1990 while she was on a jog through a Berwyn Heights park. The Beltsville resident's body was later found by a group of firefighters playing softball. She showed signs of strangulation, Alsobrooks said. According to a Washington Post story …

Tweets About Rape A Cause For Concern

A Maryland non-profit that deals with sexual assault victims has concerns about the use of the word rape by football fans on the social networking site Twitter during the recent Ravens vs. Steelers game.

Some of the hundreds of football fans who took to the social networking site Twitter to praise the Ravens' crushing opening-day victory over the Pittsburg Steelers went a little too far, according to a group that decries the use of the word “rape” to describe the match. “Ravens gonna rape the whole league. Eating steak with my family, and watching the ravens rape. Nothing better,” read one tweet. Another read, “Appropriate term for what the Ravens are doing to Pitt?
