ReplyMr. Metcalf,
Thanks for sharing this interesting study. Do you know (or can you find out) what CA paid "Chesapeake Group, Inc" (Kohn's firm) to produce a study with data that is almost 3 years old and woefully out of date and thus not very useful? Also, does the consulting firm in question have any ties to CA? Was this study competitively bid or just handed to this firm? Hope you can follow up with some additional reporting for us CA assessed property owners who paid for this study to be done. Thanks! -

Reply“We are glad they are back in custody,” wrote police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn in an email. “In general terms, the police department supports the idea of the court system making it more challenging for repeat offenders to get back on the street, so they cannot victimize more people.”
Gee, I'm so glad to hear the HoCo Police are such strong supporters (NOT) of keeping career criminals off the street. Why are the Police being so darn "polite" about all this? Whose reputations are they trying to protect (to say nothing of whose property they should be acting to protect)? Their friends in the courts? If their statement were any milder it would be an outright compliment...

ReplyOne last thing. I love how the headline says:
"Robbery on Route 29 Footbridge: Crime Roundup
This information was supplied by the Howard County Police Department."
What it should really say is something like:
"...This information was supplied by the Howard County Police Department and censored by our reporter to remove pertinent information that would be of use to you." -

ReplyI think the question should not be about political correctness but about standards of journalistic professionalism and ethics. For a reporter who has an advanced degree in journalism to summarily censor the news just strikes me as irresponsible, among other things. I would like to know if Patch has an editorial policy on this matter, and if so what it is and who's in charge of ensuring adherence. How can we trust ANY information that we see on Patch if there is continual censorship of the information they present? Their actions are reminiscent of state run media in communist China, are they not?

ReplyWhy does patch DELETE (or perhaps the right word is CENSOR) the Howard County Police Department's Daily Crime Bulletin? When I look at what the HoCo PD publishes I see you have removed some key information from the suspect descriptions:
"Suspect 1: Black male, early 20’s, wearing a black jacket, white shoes and carrying a blue and black backpack."
"Suspect 2: Black male, early 20’s, goatee, wearing a black jacket, a beanie knit hat and black shoes." Please explain Patch reporter person... -

ReplyWhat do you mean they posed no risk??? They busted into peoples homes and ransacked and stole stuff!!! And they had a history of such crimes going back years. That sounds like a risk to me. Do you really think these criminals should be out walking the streets with nothing to do except awaiting trial? I'm surprised the Howard County Police Chief has not issued a statement about this, since the whole thing makes his Dept. look like a bunch of fools after having issued a "warning" to County residents to be vigilant, only to have them caught and turned lose a few hours later. Sounds like we need new leadership in Howard County at many different levels to correct the complacency and failure I've seen displayed by the case of these two criminals.

So I guess CA declined to answer any questions about this report in terms of what it cost and how CA took my annual charge $ and gave it to someone's "buddy". If CA were an actual government entity we could label this what it seems to be: corruption, plain and simple.
