Folds of Honor, Budweiser Clydesdales Deliver Scholarships to Laurel Military Family

Representatives from the Folds of Honor Foundation were joined by the Budweiser Clydesdales in Laurel Tuesday to deliver scholarships to the family of a fallen soldier.

Tamila Lake and Andre Lake were each awarded $5,000 in honor of their father, Sergeant First Class Floyd E. Lake, who was killed in 2007 while serving in Iraq.

On January 20, 2007, Lake was riding in a helicopter in Baghdad when it was shot down and ambushed. Eleven other soldiers were also killed in the crash.

Major Dan Rooney, founder and President of Folds of Honor, was on hand to present the scholarships to Tamila, Andre, and their mother, Linda Lake.

Rooney's organization aims to "give back to the spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled in service to our country" with scholarships and other forms of assistance.

After the ceremony, he team returned to the LVFD, where first responders and local residents had an opportunity to see the horses up close.

The Clydesdales will also be accessible to the public on Wednesday at the Fort Meade Red, White & Blue Celebration starting at 4 p.m.

The festival, which takes place on the Fort Meade Parade Field (902 Reece Road, Fort Meade, MD), will feature rides, food, fireworks, and musical guest Jerrod Niemann.
