Laurel Crime: Home Invaders Allegedly Tie Up Victim, Burglar Found Hiding in Closet

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from June 8-14, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Saturday, June 8

DOMESTIC ASSAULT ARREST | 9300 block of Harvest Bend Ln.: Officers responded to a residence for the report of a domestic. Upon arrival, officers observed visible injuries to both the male and female as a result of the violent domestic. The 20-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were both arrested for second degree assault.

ARMED ROBBERY | 319 Main St.: Officers responded for the report of an armed robbery. The victim stated the suspect approached him, displayed a small handgun, and demanded money. The victim described the suspect as a skinny black male, approximately 6 foot 1 inch tall, wearing all black clothing, and a black ski mask. Laurel Police detectives responded and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Laurel Police detectives at 301-498-0092.

TRESPASSING ARREST | 15100 block of Baltimore Ave.: Officers responded to Azteca for the report of a trespasser. Officers contacted a subject, a 28-year-old man, who had been previously banned from the business. He was arrested for trespassing.

BURGLARY: Prince George’s County Police requested the assistance of a Laurel Police K9 unit for a residential burglary. The K9 unit responded and was able to locate the burglary suspect hiding in a basement closet of the residence.

Monday, June 10

BANK ROBBERY | 7400 block of Van Dusen Road: Officers responded to the PNC Bank for a possible bank robbery in progress. Bank employees stated a female entered the bank and passed a note to the teller. The note stated her father had been kidnapped and she needed money. The suspect contacted the female by phone, stated he had the female’s father, and he would be killed if she did not pay the suspect. Further investigation by Laurel Police detectives revealed the suspect who contacted the female was attempting to defraud the female. The suspect did not have the father in custody. Detectives were able to contact the father who had been in a work meeting the entire time. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

HOME INVASION ROBBERY | 14100 block of Corunna Court: Laurel Police officers responded to a residence at 10:50 p.m. for a home invasion robbery. The victim stated two men wearing masks entered the residence and displayed handguns to the victim. The suspects tied up the victim and stole a large amount of cash. Laurel Police detectives are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Laurel Police Department at 301-498-0092.

Tuesday, June 11

THEFT ARREST | 14100 block of Baltimore Ave.: Officers responded to Safeway and arrested a 46-year-old man for stealing items from the store.

WARRANT ARREST | 100 block of Bowie Rd: Officers responded to the area for the report of a disorderly subject. Officers made contact with the disorderly subject. The man was found to have an open warrant and was arrested.

Wednesday, June 12

TRESPASS ARREST | 15000 block of Baltimore Ave: Officers made contact with a male subject at the Azteca Bar and Grill. The subject was known to be banned from the business and was arrested.

DRUG/WARRANT ARREST | 100 block of Lafayette Ave.: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 28-year-old male, was found to be in possession of marijuana and was arrested. A passenger in the car, a 25-year-old male, was found to have an open warrant and was arrested.

SHOPLIFTING ARREST | 210 Ft. Meade Rd.: An officer responded to the Home Depot and made contact with two subjects found to be stealing items from the store. Both were arrested for theft.

WEAPONS/DRUG ARREST | Unit block of Second St.: SEU Officers responded to the area and made contact with a 20-year-old male. The subject was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, over $2600 U.S. currency, and over $5600 of cocaine and heroin. Jackson was arrested.

Thursday, June 13

DUI ARREST | 14300 block of Baltimore Ave.: Officers responded to the area to check of the welfare of a vehicle driver in the parking lot. Officers located a vehicle off the roadway in the area and made contact with the driver, who was found to be driving under the influence and arrested.

DRUG/WEAPONS ARREST | 800 block of Eighth St.: Officers responded to the area for a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) complaint. Officers were able to smell the odor of CDS coming from one of the apartments and made contact with subjects inside the apartment. Through further investigation, officers were able to recover marijuana, drug paraphernalia, cash, a BB-style gun and ski mask. A male subject was arrested as part of the investigation.

DRUG ARREST | 800 block of Kay Ct.: Officers made contact with an 18-year-old male who was found to be in possession of marijuana and arrested.

Friday, June 14

TRESPASS ARREST | 14000 block of Baltimore Ave.: Officers responded to the area for the report of several subjects soliciting money. One subject, a 39-year-old male, was known to be banned from the shopping center and was arrested.

DUI ACCIDENT | 8400 block of Ashford Blvd.: Officers responded to the area for a report of an accident. A female driver was found to have struck a parked car in the area. Further investigation revealed that the motorist was driving under the influence. She was charged with DUI.

ARMED ROBBERY | 600 block of Lafayette Ave.: Officers responded to the area for the report of an armed robbery. The victim stated that he was robbed by three males with face masks on. The victim also stated that all three subjects had handguns. Anyone with information is asked to contact LPD detectives at 301-498-0092.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT | 1000 block of West Ct.: Officers responded for a domestic violence call. Further investigation revealed that a 30-year-old woman had assaulted her husband, and she was arrested.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT | 14900 block of Fourth St: Officers responded for a domestic violence call. A 24-year-old male and 22-year-old female were both arrested for assault. A juvenile on scene was also arrested for assault on the male subject.
