Police: Pilot Didn't Get Enough Altitude, So Plane Crashed

Maryland State Police talk about their investigation into a small plane crash in Anne Arundel County.

A small plane that crashed into two homes in Maryland City Thursday morning was leaving Suburban Airpark when it struck a tree sending it to the ground.

Sgt. Marc Black, a Maryland State Police spokesman, said the Beechcraft Musketeer didn't have enough altitude when it left the airport around 10 a.m., which is why it ended up crashing into the homes.

Black said the injured pilot has been transported to Maryland Shock Trauma, although he was conscious at the scene.

The Maryland State Police are working with closely with the FAA, Anne Arundel County police and firefighters, he said.

One of the homes has been deemed "uninhabitable," Black said, but they are still waiting for building inspectors to arrive.

No one was in the homes at the time of the crash, he said, and there were no on-the-ground injuries.
